The temperature sensors in the KTY84 series have a positive temperature coefficient of resistance and are suitable for use in measurement and control systems. The sensors are encapsulated in the DO-35 package.Other special selections are available on request.

Function in motor application

 

1. If the temperature of the motor winding exceeds the maximum rated temperature, the winding may be damaged, or the motor insulation may be damaged or even completely fail. This is why most electric motors and gear motors (especially those used in motion control applications) integrate a thermistor or silicon resistance sensor (also known as a KTY sensor) into the motor winding. These sensors directly monitor the winding temperature (rather than relying on current measurement) and are used in conjunction with protection circuits to prevent damage due to high temperatures.

Another 1 type of positive temperature coefficient sensor is a silicon resistance sensor, also known as a KTY sensor (the family name given to this type of sensor cnampfortby the original manufacturer of the KTY sensor). These PTC sensors are made of doped silicone and manufactured using a process called diffused resistance, which makes the resistance almost independent of manufacturing tolerances. Unlike PTC thermistors, which rise sharply at the critical temperature, the resistance-temperature curve of the KTY sensor is almost linear. of a nature.
